1. Sweetener - Sugar substitutes which provides a sweet taste without raising blood sugar levels
Saccharin and its sodium, potassium, and calcium salts are used as non-caloric artificial sweeteners which are 300-400 times sweeter than sucrose (sugar) with a bitter and metallic after taste when used in high concentrations. Saccharin is chemically prepared by the oxidation of o-toluenesulfonamide to form insoluble odorless white crystals.
It is used to sweeten products such as drinks, candies, cookies, and medicines. It has E number 954 and is approved to use as food additive in EU.
