Polyquaterniums (Polyquats) are polycationic polymers designated by the International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) for use in the personal care industry. They are polymers containing a quaternary ammonium cation which is positively charged. Polyquats are commonly found in hair products as antistatic agents to neutralize charge build-up in the hair as well as skin products as film-forming agents. Different polyquaterniums and quaterniums tend to be chemically distinct from each other and have a wide range of uses. [1]
