Gelatin or gelatine is a translucent, colorless, flavorless food ingredient, commonly derived from collagen taken from animal body parts. It is brittle when dry and gummy when moist.
Gelatin is the hydrolyzed form of collagen. It is commonly used as a gelling agent in food, beverages, medications, drug and vitamin capsules, photographic films and papers, and cosmetics.
In EU, it is not approved to use as food additive (E428). In US, it is generally recognized as safe for their intended use as substances migrating to food from cotton and cotton fabrics used in dry food packaging.
