1. Anti-caking Agent - Prevents lumps from forming in food due to excess water. They usually function as a water repellent or by absorbing excess moisture.
Aluminium silicate (or aluminum silicate) is a name commonly applied to chemical compounds which are derived from aluminium oxide and silicon dioxide which may be anhydrous or hydrated, naturally occurring as minerals or synthetic. It is also known as Kaolin.
Kaolin is a layered silicate mineral. Kaolin is used in ceramics, medicine, coated paper, as a food additive, in toothpaste, as a light diffusing material in white incandescent light bulbs, and in cosmetics.
As a food additive with E number 559, it is used as an anti-caking agent and is approved to use in EU.
