1. Preservative - Prevents and inhibits the growth of unwanted microorganisms which may be harmful
Potassium nitrite is a strong oxidizer and may accelerate the combustion of other materials. Potassium nitrite is used in the manufacturing of heat transfer salts. As food additive E249, potassium nitrite is a preservative similar to sodium nitrite and is approved for usage in EU and US. [1]
This substance has been prohibited by the European Commission for use in cosmetic products.
