About:
Functions:
1. Lubricant - Prevents or reduces friction
2. Slip Modifier - Increases spreadability of other ingredients
3. Suspending Agent - Promotes particle suspension or dispersion while reducing sedimentation
Boron nitride is a heat and chemically resistant refractory compound of boron and nitrogen. It exists in various crystalline forms that are isoelectronic to a similarly structured carbon lattice. The hexagonal form corresponding to graphite is the most stable and soft among boron nitride polymorphs, and is therefore used as a lubricant and an additive to cosmetic products. [1]
Hexagonal BN is the most widely used polymorph. It is a good lubricant at both low and high temperatures. The lubricating properties of fine-grained boron nitride are used in cosmetics, paints, dental cements, and pencil leads. It can be found in cosmetic products for foundations, make-up, eye shadows, blushers, lipsticks and other skincare products. [1]
