1Source is the brainchild of our CEO Mr. Russell Yau. As a dedicated husband and father, Russell was attending an event dedicated to raising awareness to the impact that various chemicals have on our bodies and the environment. Upon further research it became apparent that the vast majority of consumers have very little knowledge of what exactly they are consuming on a daily basis. Soon after this discovery 1Source was born.
At 1Source we feel passionately that consumers have the right to know exactly which ingredients are in their products. Our company hopes to provide everybody with the information to make the right choices for their family.
Our website provides an instant and unbiased evaluation of consumer products based on the health effects of each of the product’s ingredients. Our database has 500,000+ ingredients and consumer product data. We research and appraise scientific and medical data from renowned organizations around the world including but not limited to EU commissions, WHO, US Department of Health and FDA, etc.…
Our app also allows users to quickly scan barcodes of products and alert them if any hazardous chemicals are found. Simply by inputting your own health profile our website, the app can help you find products which will not trigger your health conditions and warn you of those that do.
Our objective is to raise ingredient awareness as well as personal health maintenance, whilst promoting ethical business practices and social responsibilities. Allowing consumers to truly understand the health impact product ingredients have on their bodies and the environment.
To empower consumer safety and knowledge of ingredients found in commercial products.
To provide an objective platform that highlights banned ingredients from governments/intergovernmental agencies.
To discourage fearmongering terminology while emphasizing that certain ingredients should only be used when directed by a professional.
The 1Source Potential Risk Index® (PRI) scale for both Ingredients and Products:
Our proprietary algorithm for assessing ingredients is multi-faceted.
It takes into account intrinsic chemical properties by analyzing the number of health conditions an ingredient is beneficial for and/or detrimental to.
It also considers peer reviewed research and government regulations: Sources include, but are not limited to PubMed, PubChem, EU CosIng, FDA, UN WHO, and more.
The algorithm also considers the type of usage for each ingredient and breaks it down into four separate categories. Inhale, Swallow, Contact, Environment also known as “ISCE.”
Ratings 1-9 are automatically generated by the algorithm. Ingredients rated 10 are those which have been banned or have been classified by the IARC as a carcinogen.
A products PRI is determined by the ingredients which it contains and the product’s intended use. If a product contains any ingredient which has a PRI of 10 than the product will also be rated a 10. The ingredient’s 10 rating must be in the same category as the product for this to happen.
Ratings 2-10 are assigned by the algorithm, which only considers ingredients. To obtain a rating of 1 the product must be manually vetted.
The vetting process goes beyond the ingredients themselves. A company’s mission, values, ethics, management, facilities, and environmental friendliness are all taken into account during the vetting process. We believe that these considerations play a large part into whether a product is truly safe or not.
For a company to have the 1Source vetted seal, it means the company has taken every possible consideration into making the safest product possible.
