Functions:
1. Drug / Medicine - Treats, alleviates, cures, or prevents sickness. As officially declared by a governmental drug/medicine regulatory body
2. Glazing Agent - A waxy coating which provides protection and prevents water loss
3. Lubricant - Prevents or reduces friction
4. Surfactant - Reduces the surface tension to allow mixtures to be formed evenly. Emulsifier is a specific type of surfactant which allows two liquids to mix together evenly
Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth's surface. It is commonly refined into various types of fuels. The name petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oil and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil. [1]
Transportation, defense, technology, industry, commerce, research and development, and many other facets of human activities are directly or indirectly linked with the use of petroleum or its sub-products. It provides fuel for heat and lighting, lubricants for machinery and raw material for a number of manufacturing industries. The most important products and by-products are: petrol, paraffin, diesel, gas oil, and petro-chemical by-products – plastic, detergents, aviation gasoline, neptha, mobil, grease, vaseline, wax, butadine, asphalt, etc. In fact, nowadays thousands of products are produced by petro-chemical combinations.
