Paprika extract (E number 160c) is an oil-soluble extract from the fruits of Capsicum annuum or Capsicum frutescens, and is primarily used as a colorant to give dark red color and/or flavoring in food products. Foods colored with paprika oleoresin include cheese, orange juice, spice mixtures, sauces, sweets, and emulsified processed meats. In poultry feed, it is used to deepen the color of egg yolks. [1]
In EU, it is approved to use as food and cosmetics coloring. In US, it is exempt from certification and permanently listed for food additives use.
